DOCUMENTS HANDLED!

Here's a list of documents that you may have to handle for your puppy!

1.    Certificate with Vaccines – If you are getting the puppy from the breeder, check for all the vaccination records and the certificate of the puppy if you wish to. The shelter/pet store would also have similar documents with them which you would have to take with the puppy.
2.    Name Tag – Get the name tag ready for the puppy from day one with its name, your name and contact number. Puppies usually tend to run away the moment they get an opportunity to explore. Incase they head out of your sight, anyone who encounters him can ring you from the tag rather than calling the Animal Services first.
3.    Pet License – Look into your state’s law and go to your town hall/city hall to purchase your pet license. However, this will require you to get the Rabies vaccine done for the puppy in New York State.
4.    Microchip – As everyone says, you can get the microchipping done when the puppy gets neutered. The microchip will help you to find your puppy if it runs away and gets lost.
5.    Vaccination shots – Be prepared to head to the veterinary hospital every two weeks for the first 6 months of the puppy’s life. However, after the first year of their life, it will just be the annual shots. It is essential to maintain all the records of vaccines from when they are born.
6.    Daycare & Boarding – If you are sending your puppy to a daycare or boarding to a different facility, the vaccine records will be checked by all concerns to be sure the puppy is ready to socialize and free of any illness. A fecal test done every 6 months would help to know if the puppy is safe in such environments or not as some illness don’t really show any symptoms in them until we test it.

7.    Dog Park Tags –Taking puppies to a dog park, will help with early socialization. However, it is wise to do so after the puppy has received all the vaccination shots. Some dog parks will require you to pay fee and then purchase the tag for the puppy to play in.

8.  Insurance - It is totally upto you to either find the right pet insurance for your puppy or set up a fund for them to handle all the expenses that come your way during hospital visits.
